Denny Hamlin Comments on Atlanta Motor Speedway:
What made you decide to hop in a truck at Atlanta?: “It was really because I consider Billy (Ballew) a good friend this is a home race for him. I’ve watched the trucks at Atlanta and it’s a wild race. I’ve actually watched it from Billy’s suite at the track and it just looks like fun, so when he asked if I was interested, I jumped at the chance. I’ve been in the trucks before, not many times, but enough to get a feel for them and to know this will be a totally different race from what I’ve done before. I raced trucks at Texas (Motor Speedway), but that was four years ago, so I am sure it will take a couple of laps to get back in the swing of it. After that, it’s just trying to find the comfort level and be competitive."
Your last truck race was at Martinsville Speedway – which couldn’t be more different than Atlanta: “Yeah, it will be different for sure. I love racing at Martinsville because I know the track well and have been there in Cup cars, Nationwide cars and even Late Models. Getting in a truck there was an easy decision. Atlanta will be different, but it’s a challenge I’m looking forward to. The Ergon Racing team builds great trucks, so I expect to go out there and run competitive. Who knows, maybe I’ll even learn something for Sunday as a bonus.”
