HAMPTON, Georgia (March 7, 2008) – Marc Mitchell’s lap of 32.649 seconds around Atlanta Motor Speedway was fast enough for 29th-place, however, the rookie from Tallahassee, Fla. will have to start in the rear of the field after switching to a backup truck for qualifying. The Ergon Chevy sustained damage to the left-side of the vehicle after Mitchell ran through some moisture on the track and tagged the wall during practice. The damage was significant enough for the team to switch to the backup truck for the remainder of the day’s events.
“I didn’t want to push it too hard in qualifying because we were going to have to start in the back,” said Mitchell. “We were guaranteed to be in the race, and we didn’t have anything to gain by running a fast lap, so I decided to play it safe. We’ve got some ground to make up in the race tonight, but I think this backup truck is going to run really well. The guys on the team did a great job getting it ready in time for qualifying. I think we’ll be just fine for the race.”
