O'Reilly 200 at Memphis Motorsports Park First Practice Report

OVERVIEW

posted on June 27, 2008

The first practice session for Saturday’s O'Reilly 200 wrapped up with the Ergon Tundra in the 17th position. Marc Mitchell's speed of 113.929 mph around the .75 mile oval was second-fastest to Brian Scott among rookies. Scott’s quick lap of 114.845 mph landed him in 7th-place on the speed charts.
Despite the mid-pack results, Mitchell is optimistic about his start to the weekend. "We weren't that great at the start of practice," said the driver of the #15 Tundra. "The Ergon Toyota was pretty tight through Turns 1 & 2. We spent most of our practice time getting the truck to rotate better and not push up the track. We had the truck handling a lot better by the end of practice, but our tires were pretty worn out, so our lap times weren't fast enough to move up the charts. They were good times for being in race trim, though. We’ve still got some work to do to catch up with the leaders, so we'll keep tuning on the truck and see if we can't get faster."

Qualifying for the O'Reilly 200 starts tomorrow at 6:00 EST. The green flag drops at 9:00 EST. Coverage will be on SPEED TV.
